Using your computer and a reliable Internet connection can be the best combination for an ideal business opportunity. You don’t need raise too much capital for your business venture. With just a reliable Internet connection and computer system (which, because of wide availability and usage, become cheaper), you will be able to start your business right away and earn hundreds to thousands of dollars every month, depending on the online business opportunity that you would prefer.

However, you must be aware of the miscalculations that you can commit along your online business venture, especially when you forget to prioritize the protection of your computer system from unauthorized use and data theft. Contrary to the popular belief that a small-size Internet business will make them safe from data hackers and online intruders, there is also a great risk and danger involved once you neglect to protect your computer system, especially the hacking and computer destruction activities that are increasing significantly as the Internet evolves over the years. Most small-time Internet entrepreneurs are blinded by the fact that they are not exempted from these notorious data thieves, which is not true nowadays.

According to a research conducted by AMI-Partners, almost 50 percent of small and medium-sized online businesses failed to execute even the most basic security protection, which includes the installation of anti-spyware and anti-virus programs to their computer systems. This is one of the main reasons why the Mydoom worm triumphed, affecting one out of three small and medium-sized online businesses compared to one out of six large Internet companies. This was also discovered by the ISA or the Internet Security Alliance, a non-profit organization that handles information security issues. In other words, we can conclude that even small online businesses are more vulnerable to online threats of data theft and electronic sabotage.

In fact, every small online business owner must give data and network protection more attention due to the sophistication of data thieves. These thieves have now one of the advanced software programs and hardware necessary to break into the security measures implemented by data mangers. It would be a great waste of time and financial resources if your computer is left unguarded against these advanced data thieves and online hackers. You are on the verge of losing everything—including your computer, which is also a valuable investment.

Thus, it is important that you should consider data security and encryption as one of your top priorities. Keep in mind that your computer system is always vulnerable to this kind of attacks, even if you are just starting up. In fact, big businesses have more chances to recover compared to small business since big business have necessary funds available to recover from mishap. On the other hand, your small business has meager funds to start with your business—and an attack will be catastrophic for your small business.

There are hundreds of software providers that came up with latest solutions to guarantee the safety of your computer system. In addition, there are also Internet security services to guarantee protection of your online data against Internet hackers. By incorporating high level of encryption technology, hackers will have a hard time intercepting the data being stored in your computer system or while it is transmitted to a certain network of computer systems.

Always explore your options. Prioritize what is important and avoid getting caught by a catastrophic incident that will shut down your small business at an instant.

Reviews for Internet Security Software: Know All About the Different Internet Security Software Available

It is a fact that more and more people are using the internet to purchase the items they need in their everyday lives. Some people even shop for their groceries online to save travel time. There are also people who prefer paying their utility bills over the internet.

Since more and more people are using the internet to purchase goods and services, there are also increasing numbers of people who also wants to take advantage of the internet to make money illegally. Cyber criminals are a new breed of criminals that steals money from people through the use of the internet. They develop softwares that enables them to know about your personal and financial information. This software is called spyware.

Some develops viruses to make money out of it by simultaneously selling a program that get rids of the virus. Others are pure hackers who develop viruses just for the sake of fun in destroying other people’s computer files.

Because of this growing threat, it is now recommended that people should install internet security software in their personal computers. This particular software can fight viruses, prevent spyware from invading your computer, and it can also prevent a hacker from taking control of your computer.

It is recommended that you should at least have all the protection features in just one software since the programming of the different malicious software in the internet is very different from one another. Viruses and spyware are very different; therefore, antivirus software will not be effective in protecting your computer against spyware.

There are different kinds of internet security software available in the market today. Because of this, it would be very difficult for you to choose which internet security software you should purchase. Since all of the companies claim that they are the best in the business, it can be very confusing for you in choosing which software is really the best.

In order for you to at least have an idea on which software is the best, you have to take a look at the software review in order to know about the different opinions of different people who have used the software before. Of course, the more people who say positive things about the software, the more likely the internet security software is one of the best software available that offers optimum protection against malicious software and hackers popping out of the internet everyday.

Reviews are an important part of purchasing anything. With a review, you can strengthen your opinion and your decision in whether you want to buy the software or not. It is important to read the user reviews for internet security software in order to know if the particular brand of the software is really worth your money.

Reading user reviews is like getting to know the software better. Besides, who else would have better knowledge about the software than the people who have used the software before? With a user review, you will know about the different capabilities of the software and know about the pros and cons.

So, if you are confused on which internet security software you should purchase, you should consider reading the user reviews in order to get an idea on which one you should buy.

Last week, the folks at cable giant Comcast asked for more time to give a nuanced response to a report that the company was blocking some peer-to-peer traffic on its network. The public relations staff at the Philadelphia company seemed genuinely baffled by accusations that it was interfering with file-sharing applications like BitTorrent and Gnutella. They stubbornly insisted that they did not monitor or block any Internet traffic – despite strong evidence to the contrary.

Today, Comcast tried to do a bit better – while sticking to its guns. “Comcast does not block access to any Web sites or online applications, including peer-to-peer services like BitTorrent” read a written statement. “We have a responsibility to provide all of our customers with a good Internet experience and we use the latest technologies to manage our network so that they can continue to enjoy these applications.”

Speaking on background in a phone interview earlier today, a Comcast Internet executive admitted that reality was a little more complex. The company uses data management technologies to conserve bandwidth and allow customers to experience the Internet without delays. As part of that management process, he said, the company occasionally – but not always – delays some peer-to-peer file transfers that eat into Internet speeds for other users on the network.

The executive declined to talk in detail about the technology, citing spammers or other miscreants who might exploit that knowledge. But he insisted the company was not stopping file transfers from happening, only postponing them in certain cases. He compared it to making a phone call and getting a busy signal, then trying again and getting through. In cases where peer to peer file transfers are interrupted, the software automatically tries again, so the user may not even know Comcast is interfering.

The executive also noted that peer-to-peer network users represent a minority of Comcast customers, but that they use a disproportionate amount of bandwidth.

And that was about the extent of the explanation.

It seems unlikely that Comcast has a secret agenda to shut down file-sharing applications and combat piracy on its network. But the company is clearly trying to have it both ways. It claims it is a neutral Internet service provider that treats all packets equally, not blocking or “shaping” its Internet traffic.
Meanwhile it also positions itself as the champion of average Internet users whose speeds are being slowed by file-sharing.

The problem Comcast may now be facing is that in the absence of a plain explanation about what the company does to disadvantage certain applications in the name of managing traffic on its network, anecdotal reports and conspiracy theories fill the vacuum.

You might think your anonymous online rants are oh-so-clever. But they’ll give you away, too. A federally-funded artificial intelligence lab is figuring out how to track people over the Internet, based on how they write.

The University of Arizona’s ultra-ambitious “Dark Web” project “aims to systematically collect and analyze all terrorist-generated content on the Web,” the National Science Foundation notes. And that analysis, according to the Arizona Star, includes a program which “identif[ies] and track[s] individual authors by their writing styles.”

That component, called Writeprint, helps combat the Web’s anonymity by studying thousands of lingual, structural and semantic features in online postings. With 95 percent certainty, it can attribute multiple postings to a single author.

From there, Dark Web has the ability to track a single person over time as his views become radicalized.

The project analyzes which types of individuals might be more susceptible to recruitment by extremist groups, and which messages or rhetoric are more effective in radicalizing people.

The research comes with risks, according to the NSF.

Dark Web also uses complex tracking software called Web spiders to search discussion threads and other content to find the corners of the Internet where terrorist activities are taking place. But according to [Arizona's] Hsinchun Chen, sometimes the terrorists fight back.

“They can put booby-traps in their Web forums,” Chen explains, “and the spider can bring back viruses to our machines.” This online cat-and-mouse game means Dark Web must be constantly vigilant against these and other counter-measures deployed by the terrorists.

The Arizona group has been at this sort of research for a while, now — sifting through more than 900,000 Islamist web pages. Here’s a report Xeni filed last year for NPR on the Dark Web project. And here’s a meaty blog post from Dancho Danchev on related projects.

Strangely, the Arizona AI lab’s website seems to be down right now. But, thanks to the magic of Google, you can read a whole bunch of the the group’s “Dark Web” research papers here. As the Star notes:

In one study, Chen found terrorist Web sites and U.S. government sites are equally sophisticated on the technical level. But terrorist Web sites are about 10 times richer in multi-media content like pictures and video and also about 10 times more effective in creating a community. Terrorist sites are quick to provide answers and instruction when their users ask questions, he said.
